The Colour Wheel and The Closet – Part 1

The Introduction

Colours are the fun and exciting component of our wardrobe that helps us express our individuality, set the mood, and define our style. By understanding colour theory and our personal style, we can start to delve into what is going on behind (our) closet doors.

The colour wheel, the most well-known model of colour theory, represents the relationships between primary, secondary, and tertiary colours. Several harmonies of colour are shown on the colour wheel, including Complementary, Analogous, Triadic, Tetradic, Monochromatic, and Split Complimentary.

By employing the colour wheel, we can experiment with basic colour combinations and design aesthetically appealing styles using harmonious colours or daring and striking styles using contrasting colours. Whichever impression we intend to create, our fashion choices and our outfit colours are still largely dependent on individual preferences. To understand the colours we wear and to choose the appropriate hues for our wardrobes, it is essential to discover how colours interact with each other, as well as which colours – in their various shades, tones, tints and hues – are best suited to our natural complexion and contrast.

Ultimately, colour is an essential, seductive, pervasive and powerful tool in our expression of style and self. So when you use it, use it well.
